Landscape Pebbles

Hi all, Any recommendation for a vendor for purchasing 2000lb of polished pebbles for some DIY landscaping? Or does anyone have any experience buying from Home Depot or Lowes with delivery? Thanks!

Suburban suppliers might be less expensive but it’s probably worth your time to call Jamaica Building Materials at 1008 Atlantic Ave (nr. Grand Ave). 718-783-3906. We have purchased both gravel and Belgian blocks from them and were very satisfied with their service and delivery.

We bought from Home Depot and they delivered the stones in bags on a pallet. Order darker than you assume because they take photos of the stones when they are wet for their website and we had a rude surprise with our pearly whites. Our dogs have turned the pebble area into a giant litter box.

bob, for some reason it seems when people put pebbles down they seem to have to add to them every few years.

bob is right, someone across the street had these horrible looking white pebbles down and the new owner of the house had to remove them and it looked like an arduous task.

Cedar mulch over landscape cloth can serve much the same purpose and is a LOT lighter. Of course you do have to add more every couple of years. That’s not necessarily a bad thing should you change your mind and decide to get rid of it.

A heavy pickup truck could carry a ton of this stuff easy so my thinking is, perhaps you can find a place that carries this stuff, places with more space in eastern queens or nassau or staten island, and have it delivered. I mention pick up because when was a kid in the burbs, people used to have stone delivered for their driveways, every few years (my father still does it) and it was and is done with a dump truck. Unless you have a place to drop it, that is a problem.

I notice that once we leave the city these hardscape suppliers seem to be everywhere. Storing rocks takes acreage, so they need cheaper land and more of it.

And I once picked up course sand with a pick up truck and what I did was put a canvas down in the truck and had them load it onto the canvas. I then shoveled it into a pile and pulled the canvas out to get the remainder.

If hd has bagged stuff, that will be easier, but more selection and cheaper prices will come from places just ou tside the city. The cost of this stuff is in the shipping. A pick up and two strong sets of backs and arms will do it.
