Kitchen cabinets - plywood doors?

Hi everybody,

This is a bit of a follow up to the cabinet shopping previous posts by others. We are looking for quality cabinets without breaking the bank. We would like them to last, in good shape, for at least 15 years in a kitchen. We have been quite disappointed by the cabinet doors of Ikea/HomeDepot (at least in the bath) so these are not an option (altho we would like to use these producers for the skeleton/structure of the cabinets and hang higher quality doors on the outside). In particular, cost effective doors seem to be made of plywood with a finish. Has anyone had good or bad experience with these in terms of quality/effectiveness? How would they rate versus real wood (pricey?) and melamine (or the other synthetics)?
