Kitchen cabinet recos - American Woodmark, Shenandoah, others?

Getting ready to move our kitchen to the parlor floor and looking for recos on which brand to order. Anyone have experience with the private labels from Home Depot or Lowe’s? How is the quality and how have they held up? Any other brands, besides Ikea, that we should look at? Thanks all.

Layout, design, functionality, finishes, maintenance, counter tops, characteristics of those using and working in the kitchen, overall use and traffic patterns (cooks as well as everyone else), entertaining and cooking larger meals in occasionally, are what makes a kitchen a KITCHEN! A lesser cabinet line installed with the above and other considerations well thought out will bring far more pleasure than a higher end line will bring without the above considerations. I recently saw a kitchen, really high end cabinets, that had the coolest pull out inside corner drawer hardware kind of thing I’d ever seen. (If it worked) you pull out the door front/drawer and then an inside drawer moves left and the follows the drawer out. I may not be describing this well. They missed that once the stove was put in place, it would not open more than one inch. Thats right, the entire inside corner of the base cabinets, with the solid surface counter tops now cut, glued and installed, is completely useless. They were wondering how I would suggest fixing this… This is an extreme example but the list of smaller design flaws is not short. Dishwasher doors or base cabinet drawers not being able to open because of something adjacent, no space left in an inside corner to accommodate whats around it, a refrigerator way way out of the work flow, non-existent “work triangle”, etc. Sorry, didn’t mean to get carried away. Design first, ask less questions later. The cabinet lines you mention are great, some better than others but are generally reasonably priced and I am in agreement with the other posts on this. we went with american woodmark for our rental and Thomasvile for our parlor kitchen, and they are holding up well. we went with cherry on both, and they really fit in well with the house/wood colors. they were installed by our contractor in early 2012\. Our designer at the Bed-Stuy HD was Monica – very professional, went out of her way to make sure everything went well for us.

I have used the Kraftmaid brand for 2 renovations (Home Depot – Don’t know if Lowes carry). Very happy with quality.
