Kitchen Backsplash

We are in the process of remodeling our old house and thinking about the flooring options between wooden, marbles or mosaic tiles?
Also, my wife like these tiles for kitchen backsplash will this be a good addition or it would look old https://www.mosaictilecenter.com/product/michelangelo-marble-hopscotch-pattern-mosaic-tile/ we want to give our house a modern look.

Mat315, yes agree Ann Sacks is usually very pricey. The initial example above I thought was $12 a sq ft so I went off that. Some people also like to splurge on a back splash especially if small. Apartment therapy has a article on some cheaper Ann Sacks designs. https://www.apartmenttherapy.com/post-47-110882

RE: kitchen ffloors, tile can be hard on your feet and legs. After living with refinished wood sub-floors in our kitchen for years we opted for pre-finished oak a couple of years ago. IMO it’s durable enough for kitchen use and can be sanded and refinished if necessary. Granted, we emphatically did NOT want a modern look, but their are plenty of modern looking wood finishes

Ann Sacks is great but they are so pricey it’s insane. Oh, and they are basically a brand owned by Kohler.

Ann Sacks has a nice selection and so does Heath. Agree with with Slopefarm. I picked the tiles for the floor, backsplash once I knew what cabinets and counters had been selected. Sometimes the tile showroom can be very helpful. Rudy at Stone Source, NY helped me choose all the tile. I went in with samples of my countertop and cabinet finishes. I did a similar exercise at Heath as I was visiting SF at the time but you could do it via email too.

Slopefarm is right regarding the order of selection of items. Backsplash should be last. When considering flooring you likely want to avoid using wood in the kitchen. A flood or even a moderate leak in the kitchen will ruin the floor and even stuff like oil splatters will stain it. There are many ceramic tiles that look like wood floors, or resemble them, so that could be good. (I can send you a photo of what I purchased). Wood is great for the floors of the living areas for obvious reasons, like durability. Mosaic could work well in the bathroom. Personally, I would avoid tiles in the main living areas as I find tile cold and slippery and it needs a lot of upkeep. Keeping tile on the floor in tip-top shape is time consuming. Another thing regarding tile: the more you use and the more complex the design the better the chance the installation can go awry. You will need a more than expert tile installer, which is not so easy to find.

I would hold off on the backsplash until you pick the floor, the countertops, and (if you are replacing or refinishing) the cabinets. Then get some samples of what you think would work and see how they look in the setting.

aesthetics are personal but if you’re looking for modern, those tiles are not going to do it. personally i think they’re absolutely hideous.
