Is there a way to save/fix original hardwood floor that is warped/buckling?

We had leaks over the weekend, although we caught them shortly after they started, and I now noticing the original hardwood floor turning upwards between the planks in an area kind of smack dab in the center of our living room. Is there a way to flatten it out?The floors are original, and I do not think the super can fix them and match the rest of the floor (we rent.) I really love these floors, and the warping in in a very obvious area that we constantly walk over, and would not be covered by furniture. Will they go back down on their own, or is there anything we can do to fix this?

Run fans. If it needs to replaced, call a wood floor expert who has experience and materials to repair vintage floors using the same wood. They exist in Brooklyn. Search this forum for recommendations.

Thank you for the responses. I am hoping it just dries out and settles down. If it does require any attention, the super would have to handle it, and I was just worried that they would do a very subpar job (the wood floors through out the apartment are a little scratched up in some places, but otherwise seem to be entirely intact in their original form and design, so it’s clear that they have never had to do any substantial work to the flooring.) The flooring place in nhp was hall flooring and they had stacks of everything. When people look for flooring on here, I forget to mention them. Worth a trip if they have what you need.

Hee, hee, I almost let jh know that 1/2 a rochefort 10 would be more than enough for him and in truth two 8’s dont do near enough for me.

OP, I am more on the sub floor. Even jh mentions a maple warehouse floor and I patched one in 1998 or so and there was no sub floor under it and that may explain why it went back so easy.

I am more concerned with sub floor than floor. And what might it be, when was building built and had there been reno. You know, old pine is sort of more stable and might sort of go back, maybe, but plywood, once it lets go and delaminates, ahh, get a rochefort 10 and think about it.

I am not up for patching floors. I am not putting my name forth. I am only trying to help.

Out of curiosity, jh, was that maple floor narrow strips or 2 1/4? The one I did was like 1″ and I bought it at a place in nhp.

During Sandy I worked in a beautiful warehouse right near the water. The first floor got completely flooded with saltwater and mud, all 3000’ of gorgeous old maple flooring. All the board were soaked and curled and cupped. We cleaned it off as best as we could and let it dry out. It did all dry out eventually and it returned to it’s previous flat surface. I’m not sure if there was a subfloor underneath or not but I was convinced the floor was trashed but it survived!
Steve @ doors knows a lot about wood AND knows what’s up with Rochefort 10 but I prefer 8, a bit darker and rich, either way exceptional choices 🙂

Might be sub floor underneath. I would have had a dehumidifier in right away. But, if it is sub floor it might not go back and make take time to dry, longer than what you see on top. In my opinion, drying wood on top and not all the way through can lead to other issues, checking. Perhaps better to pull floor now and set pieces aside and see what happens to sub. Sub can always be cut out and replaced and flooring can always be patched. Flooring can be made up in a shop and patched if need be.
