Is Painting pipes and electrical conduits OK?

We’re trying to make a little rec room space.

Is there any good reason or rule to not paint pipes and electrical conduits?
We don’t plan to paint any gas pipes, just mainly electrical conduits on ceiling and the conduit where the power comes into the building.

We just want to paint it all to make it look a little more finished instead of a space with metal pipes running all over. ok. i would paint the conduit without thinking about it. whenever we added conduit to the building i mention above, we primed it and put some effort into it so it would not be peeling in a few years. what i am suggesting is you can use latex paint over a primer. not the best, but quick and cheap. if you are going white, a white primer will get you there faster. one coat primer, one coat paint? i think on stuff like this i was using the alcohol based primer. of course, oil would be better on metal but inside i did not see the point.

in so far as gas or sprinkler or steam pipes, i only mentioned that for the wider audience. in my own single family if i wanted to paint them i would do so without thinking about it but in a big multi family or commercial building, i would begin asking further questions.

There’s actually no fire sprinkler pipes, mostly just electrical conduit.

we always painted conduit in commercial space that was run through areas being used as office and so far as i know it was ok to do. no inspector ever said anything.

in one or two family it may not matter what color you paint pipes but i would wait for comment from a professional plumber or fire system person.
