Interior Insect ID please :/

Hi All,

I woke up to a lot of flying insects in my house. They seem to be losing their wings and crawling around the floor. They kind of look like ants (I fear they are termites). We have lived here for 4 years on the 1st floor and never had this (we have had ants every spring season – but not flying ones). I’ve checked all the floor areas and can’t find a source from where they are emerging.

We did just use some organic fertilizer on our house plants and wonder if they are emerging from there.

Before we call the exterminator, if anybody has experience with these bugs and can ID them please let me know.

Termite! This is the time of year, they have left their burrow to fly and find a new home, to expand and multiply. They are probably in your backyard and under your house, Just because you have a swarm does not mean you have an infestation, but you would want to get an inspection just to be sure. I have had them come through my chimney and into my boilers and onto the floor (where they lose their wings and die)
