Installing Blue Stone Over Existing Pavers?

Hello Brownstoners – Our backyard has existing pavers, and we would like lay blue stone on top of these pavers instead of removing them (big job). Our initial thought was to lay sand down and install the bluestone on top. Thoughts?

If the pavers were installed correctly with a proper base, I wouldn’t remove them. I would install the bluestone over a thin bed of mortar right on top.

I have little doubt that “newtomehouse” is suggesting the best and proper way to lay bluestone, but I suspect that laying it over the existing pavers would also work. I think “peaceout” should get some additional opinions.

Bluestone should be installed over a mortar bed, not over sand. Existing pavers need to come out.
