In need of a Personal Chef

Hi,

We are looking for grocery shopper and personal chef to come in for half a day 1-2 times a week to cook and shop for a family of 3 for the week. Know anyone with decent pricing? We are on a strict/tight budget

You are responding to only 50% of my statement. Sure McDonalds or equivalent every night would probably be cheaper than chef prepared meals, but if the goal is to also eat healthy food then the math is probably break-even or better than take-out. Unfortunately healthy food is simply far more expensive in this country than unhealthy food.

This is interesting — I read this as “on a strict/tight budget (as opposed to the average cost of this service)” not on a strict budget generally.

I would wager that VERY few people reading this forum are truly on a “tight budget” generally. I definitely feel like The Poors when I read this forum and people yammering on about how “reasonable” a contractor is only to find out their fees are EXORBITANT comparatively. BUT compared to the rest of this city/country/world we are definitely NOT the Poors and considered extremely well off.

How is this inquiry any different than the ordinary Brownstoner poster who says that they are on a “Strict Budget” of “only” 100k per floor when doing a gut reno? I don’t recall people saying “maybe your shouldn’t renovate then” or otherwise questioning their finances.

Just curious.

Hey Christina, not sure if you’re a member of any of the brooklyn parent groups on facebook but i think there are a couple people posting on the message boards who do exactly this type of work. i can’t speak for their prices, having never used them, but you might get more friendly and helpful responses on Bococa Moms or South Brooklyn Families (those are just the two I’m part of, I’m sure there are others).

not sure why all the negativity. Eating takeout is both more expensive and less healthy than a “personal chef”. My wife and I work very long hours and have two small kids. Shopping and cooking every night is not feasible for us and I have thought about the personal chef option myself. It’s worth noting this is not intended as a family staff member who works a full day in your house for a salary. There are many small businesses out there where people plan meals and cook for their clients then deliver the food on a daily basis.

maybe this is just me but doesn’t the idea of having a personal chef not really line up with also having a “strict/tight budget” ? I thought personal chefs were for those without budget limitations.
