how to find fig tree

We would like to grow a fig tree in the backyard of our Greenpoint townhouse. Does anyone have an unwanted fig tree? Advice on where to buy one or what varieties do well here? Thanks!

Have had luck on Craigsist – Guys selling cuttings of their own trees – that way you get one that is winter hardy and used to the NY winters. Also these guys in Jersey seem interesting – https://frenchfigfarm.com/fig-trees – believe they ship

Most garden centers have them, even the small stores in Brooklyn China town sometimes have them. Make sure you have a variety that’s cold resistant. I have one in my back yard that gets huge every summer and I prune it back. You’re welcome to have the cuttings in the fall. They root easily. There’s a fig growers Facebook group for our area with lots of advice.
