How to deal with 220V dryer?
I have a LG electrical dryer that runs on 220V, but the outlet in our laundry room only has 110V. An electrician advised me to have a 220V power line directed from the main breaker in the basement into the laundry room on the second floor. Does anybody have anybody any experience with this, i.e. amount of work and price this would entail? Is it more adviceable to replace the electric dryer with a gas dryer (gas hook-up is in the laundry closet upstairs)?

I just did this, but we had to run a dedicated line to a new 220v, 30 amp circuit from my basement to the top floor of my brownstone. Stay away from gas. You run into too many issues with that. Call my electrician – Frank at Blaze Electric, I promise he will be reasonable and cheaper than anyone in our area. Kershat is his top guy and he will figure out the best way to run the line up to the place you need it. I had my plumber from Aladdin Plumbing come and turn off/cap my old gas line to my old gas dryer. Cost to run my new 220v line up 4 floors to my laundry room was $2,700. I also had to get my handyman repair 2 small holes that the electrician had to cut to pull the wires up.

I agree with DIBS that a gas dryer is preferable to an electric. However extending the gas line might be a MUCH bigger deal than running a 220 V line, assuming you do it legally, with a permit If a gas line is already in place in the exact location where you want the dryer it’s almost a no-brainer, assuming there’s a practical way to install a vent.

A full size gas dryer will do a much better job than any smaller electric one if you have room for it. As far as the 220 line, any electrician is going to have to look at how to run it before they quote you a price. I’d recommend Ceriello Electric
