How many Amps and will ConEd Provide it?

Hello! I’m renovating a 1-family home in Queens to be all electric. That’s going to include: Induction cooktop, Heating, AC, Steam Shower, Electric Car charger, tankless water heater, electric dryer, etc., The house currently has 100 amps, which likely isn’t enough (induction alone is 50 amps). We’d want to be able to charge the car, run the induction, use a microwave, the AC, and have someone taking a shower without ever worrying. We are putting solar panels on the roof, too.

We had an electrician come out, and he recommended 400 amps, with possible 200 amp 3-phase as a backup. The question 1: Does this make sense to people with similarly electrified homes?

The electrician said the next step was to find out if ConEd will even allow 400 (or 200) amps to a home. He said I could call them and find this out, but when I tried, ConEd told me that only an electrician can get that info. I told the electrician this, and his response was that he could, but it would require him filing and doing paperwork, which would cost me money. He insisted that I could find out the answer to the question “What is ConEdison willing to supply?” on my own since we’re still in a planning phase. The best I could manage was submitting an inquiry through ConEdison’s project planning portal asking these questions.

So Question 2: Is what my electrician suggesting correct? Can I simply find out what ConEd is willing to do in this very planning stages route?

We have much of the same setup as you describe and 200 AMP service is sufficient. The assumption is that you will never be running everything at the same time at full blast. For example your range only draws 50 amps with every burner and the oven on high.

ConEd can already not support the current grid. Look at what happens when we have a hot summer day.
Add countless more mini splits, electric vehicles and induction stoved for everyone…..
Not only can’t the antiquated grid support it and we’ll be burning a lot more fossil fuels at the power plant.
We need green alternatives

I recall one person saying that you can do all of this and con ed might still not give you the new and required wire size.
