Homeowners insurance for multi-family?

Hi we have a multi family (3 units) in brooklyn and I’m exploring options for homeowners policies. We currently use brownstone agency, but dealing with a recent fire at my mom’s house nearby and I’m learning how very much your insurance carrier DOES matter… and I’ve heard maybe the underwriter we have might not be toppest of notch. Does anyone have experience with homeowners for their multi family they would recommend? We are planning a reno for later this year, so I’d like to make the change soon. I’ve combed through archives here but only names I’ve seen are Chubb and the one we already have. thanks for any and all advice!!

We use Traveler’s and I can’t say enough good things about our experience with them! They weren’t the cheapest, but they were the only carrier that would cover our dog. We went through Samantha Dulohery at SelectQuote to find our policy and I was very happy with the whole process. Her email is samantha.dulohery@selectquote.com and phone number is 855.846.3457

She walked us through a bunch of different policies and really helped advocate for us with different agencies when it came to negotiating about the dog and a few other things. I would highly reccomend giving her a call.

We often recommend the Arthur Chernick Company: (212) 697-2147. Ask for Charles Chernick, and let him know we referred you. He’s extremely knowledgable and represents several insurance companies, so he can compare policies. Also, ask about a Course of Construction policy for coverage specific to the duration of the renovation.
