Home Insurance for lovely old home that happens to NOT be a fancy Brownstone?
Hi everyone! I’ve been reading all of the insurance posts on here for a while and most of the time the home involved is a Chubb-worthy or Brownstone Agency-worthy 19th century brownstone laden with wedding cake plaster detail and wood out the wazoo.
Well, we have a lovely home that was built around 1912, and it has some nice plaster detail and wood but not the bonkers stuff that makes your eyes pop out with envy and may not merit the big bucks of a Chubb policy. But you still want a decent insurer!
Our current insurer was just dinged on the the forum for being crappy and I’ve always been curious if there’s better out there. Any thoughts? Also, they must also cover a home with a pit-bull mix in it, which I know makes things extra hairy.

i commented that we carry Met Life Home here which is something i question as the folks on here have never mentioned them. Met Life convinced me they were ok as when they did the write up for the policy and i told them if we have a loss i want the same real wood back in the house, they promised me it would be the policy covered replacement. if you take a look at Met Life, i would lilke to hear what you think. i tend to think of them as a mid range product, kind of like my house.
