High Taxes for Brownstone -- How Do I Change It
I am paying almost $20k for standard 4 family in Clinton Hill. Seems like a very high number. Is there a service I can hire to potentially argue reducing these taxes? Is $20K fairly standard or should I look into fighting it?
Any pointers will be hugely appreciated.
Thank you.

You’re late to appeal this year. There are attorneys who specialize in this area but they’re very expensive & picky about what cases they take. You can do it yourself if you put in a lot of time & research. Start by phoning the Dept. of Finance.

Have there been any recent building permits, changes of use etc? These are the things that can trigger large tax increases and there is not a whole lot you can do about that.
Is it in the right tax class? I recently saw a 4 family that was still being taxed as a rooming house. It had a “new” C of O for a 4 family almost 15 years already.
