Help me find BEWISO windows!

Hi I am a GC in brooklyn and my architect spec’d for these extremely hard to find, BEWISO windows. Can anyone point me in the right direction to getting these?

@Jimmy #4. Perhaps you can “advise the client”. Give them two prices, one with the specced windows and one with a quality locally available alternative.

thank you guys for the help, let me offer an update on this situation:

1. Reached out to bewiso and they have 1 distributor in the states which is: “Historical Windows of New York” I was able to get a quote from them
2. 475 does not carry anymore
3. I also reached out to Alba European Windows and they were able to provide me with a quote.
4. I am in the bidding phase so I cannot exactly advise the client on the matter of an alternative

here is the problem with ordering something that may be very high end and may have not have a big market share as a result: 10 years from now if a part is needed and that company is no longer around, we cannot count on third party (after market) manufacturers stepping in a making replacement parts. they may not want to make them because there is no demand for those parts because either they windows were made so good in the first place that nothing breaks or they are so pricey that many are just not out there to break.

if people are not sure of what i am talking about, the presence of the internet and a lot of small manufacturers in china has opened up an entire supply chain of after market parts for old things that have not been made in years. but the only reason they have done this is because of the market share of the original product. its is amazing what we can find for a machine made in 1978 on the internet.

jimmy, i have been watching this unfold and from the start i could not even negotiate the manufacturers website to find a list of distributors.

i do restoration work and when i get calls about using something that is really pricey or am asked to source something that might have no parts available if something might go wrong, i have to consider how involved i wish to be in that job and how responsible i want to be if we proceed. last year i got a call to rebuild a pair of doors in lower manhattan that had a bowed piece of glass in them and i told the owners i did not want to do the job because i did not want to accept responsibility for the glass. when this happens and we are trying to source something new (or used) that may be hard to replace, i often put alternatives in front of the customer. most customers, when they hear the reality about finding replacement parts will often listen to suggestions about products that have a larger market presence. others have suggested it; can you bring this situation up to the architect?

you may be doing the customer a f avor if you have access to them at this point and can go around the architect and advise them that these windows (and hence the parts) appear to be very hard to find. most customers do not want the headaches that decisions like these often lead to in ten years time, when service is needed but this has to be explained to them. good, honest advice to a customer is good customer service (so long as we do not have a hidden agenda). perhaps you can put augustiner’s suggestion before the architect and customer.

Can someone on here educate us as to what is so special about these windows that the architect feels must be had? or can someone study the data sheet for that product and offer an explanation? and offer suitable replacements in addition to what augustiner has put forth? i used to install windows myself but that was a lifetime ago and the priciest we got was Anderson so i know nothing about the benefits of high end products.

Thomas at Cembra.us is a boutique importer for custom triple pane wood an and alu-clad wood windows from EU. Triple-pane passive house grade, best of the best. I ordered Rieder wood and VEKA PVC windows from him.
They also do ‘double hung appearance’ tilt&turn for landmark projects. If nothing else I am sure he can give you good advice.

475 does not carry them any more. A busy business may not have time to maintain a site as people refer them through word of mouth. I second your architect’s recommendation.

Does anyone read the website? It lists a distributor here http://www.bewiso.eu/new-yorks-calling/

But, why? I have Marvin tilt and turn widows. I would have went with Bieber, which has on office in the Village, but the lead time and price did not work out. Very high quality.

I could not find a US distributor. When this happens, and it happens a lot with domestic products that may not have a NY distributor, i contact the manufacturer and ask who their regional distibutor is.
