chemosphere: the cat is smarter than we are. she or he has realized that MDF is no better than the carboard scratching posts we actually want to spend money on.

one of my cats is slowly destroying my mdf baseboards. Not sure why she loves to sharpen her claws on it. It turns to mush. Easy to replace, though.

Right dibs. Takes you to drill down to the truth. OP, when I put primed pine forth I was hinting you dont want MDF. But really, green called it with poplar. Most of us use poplar for paint grade in customers houses. My thinking is they may not have it made up, ready to go.

MDF isn’t going to hold up as a baseboard if you are wet mopping the floors. Even if it’s painted.

@green: and they make make hand held round over tools. we keep a few around to take the edge of that odd board, when setting up a router would be a hassle. they are not hardware store items and i cannot recall the name of them. lee valley might have them. it might be a roundover tool?

The only thing that differentiates this from a common board is the 1/8 rounded edge at the top. Any decent carpenter with a router and the proper bit can round the edge in any wood board of your choosing. I prefer poplar myself.

See all of the above. if it was not common lumber, i would rip it on a table saw and i know that is not the answer most homeowners need to hear.
I think what green suggested was MDF. Riverheand Building Supply in Mineola and perhaps even Dykes there in Brooklyn might have this in primed pine. maybe our favorite orange apron store has it in primed pine.
