Heating questions
For BTU output of radiant floor heat, I have seen estimates as high as 35 and as low as 15. Does anyone with radiant floor heat have figures for actual output? Also, if our heating contractor recommends a bigger system than we think necessary, can we insist on taking our chances with something smaller? We are happy keeping the daytime thermostat at 68 degrees in winter. For a single family house, does the DOB have minimum requirements? It’s a row house, so no heat loss on the sides, and we will have all-new windows, insulation, etc.

Yes. It’s called a thermostat.

Keeping our home at a comfortable temperature is extremely necessary. Many times there is a sudden change in the surrounding temperature that could not be detected and realized by everyone.
To understand and record this rapid temperature change in the house and surrounding environment we must use appropriate temperature measurement instruments.

You can keep your house at whatever temperature you want. As long as you have no tenants. 68 is certainly comfortable for most. But new insulation and windows and attached homes on both sides are not a guarantee of “no heat loss.” What is making you think that your plumber’s recommendation is off.? And of course, you can tell him what you want, but then the risk is all on you if the system is insufficient for your home and needs.

15 for wood flooring, up to 35 for masonry/tile. What do you mean by “bigger system”? Bigger boiler? More tubing? Tell me.

all depends on what kind of radiant system you are installing….slab, staple up, warm board, etc
