Heating in Garden-Level Brownstone Extension
My tenant’s bathroom is located in an extension. The existing in-wall heater (which wasn’t really sufficient) died. Recommendations on the best way to heat the space? Recommendations on a contractor to do the work?

Don’t know about the legality in NYC, but upstate I use an envi wall-mounted space heater. They’re inexpensive, occupy very little space, and plug into a regular outlet.

Installing a loop of hot water baseboard heater using the boiler water is usually a pretty simple process, especially if it’s on the same floor as the boiler or even one floor above. After that it gets trickier, but still very doable.

Just thinking out loud. If you were renovating, I would say electric radiant heat under the tiles. But I don’t think that is what you are looking for. One story extensions are hard because they coo faster than the rest of the house. We had some luck in an extension with ceramic electric baseboards. The ceramic heats more slowly and cools off more slowly than regular metal element baseboards, so it mimics an old fashioned steam radiator a little more. But that may be a tricky solution in a wet space.
