Handyman Needed (Masonry + wood door under stoop falling apart)

Hello,

Does anyone know of someone that can re-frame and replace the door under the stoop, clean up the masonry around that and pour some concrete inside the dirt ground inside of that exterior storage area?

I’m in a handyman nightmare – the Brownstoner ones seem to do fancy restorations that don’t apply to me, and the Yelp ones aren’t interested in the work at all (if they bother to return my call).

I know there’s a high demand.

do you think vermin would nest there if the only thing stored there were garden tools? I don’t want to attract rats or mice but I do like the ease of not having a door there.

Sry my bad yes storage door under the taller stoops. I would think that vermin would find that a highly attractive place to nest. Unless main stoop is a solid door also, i would definitely replace or repair that door.

I thought he meant the door that some have under the stoop so that the area under the stoop is sealed off with a door, not the gate to get under the stoop

Main reason for the door is that it is great cover for thieves to break into basements. Definitely happens. Gate under stoop is a good deterrent

If you store trash cans under the stoop without a door you run the risk of vermin like rats, mice, roaches and flies infesting the area. Also the smell from the garbage will be more pronounced. It will be less damp without a door but if you have installed a concrete slab and install a couple of small louvers at the top and bottom of the door it will help tremendously with air flow and mitigating the dampness.

Quick question – I had every intention of painting that door and reinstalling it, but now that the door and frame have been taken down, I am enjoying the easy access to the under stoop storage area. I keep a little wagon, gardening pots and trash cans under there. Can anyone think of a good reason to keep that door?

Call Carlos at 917-887-4205. He just did this for me: removed old tiles in the under-stoop vestibule and stuccoed the whole area. He removed the door and will reinstall it after I clean it up / paint it, but he can install a new one for you.
