hallway width on 3 family- r6

So I am redoing one of my apartments and and trying to make my hallway as small as possible to give a few extra inches to the other room (bathroom). I am having trouble finding code on what the minimum width needs to be. It seems I am finding most people saying 36 inches. Does that sound correct? id love to try and keep it around 32 if possible.

I’ve been told 36″ minimum recently by a contractor and an architect. We have some halls that are narrower which means if we renovate we might have to bring them up to code aka make them at least 3′ wide. However I can also say that narrower halls kind of suck–we have them on ground floor where everyone is coming in and out and it’s annoying to have to back up if someone is walking toward you. Yes this happens to us all the time.
