Gurgling sound
My laundry room sink has had a distant gurgling sound coming from it almost 24/7 for weeks. This is all after we had a sewage backup and later snaked and ran a camera both ways, which were clear.
No more backups now, but what is the sound?? It it the closest to the street – could that be a factor? Is the washing machine slow dripping or something? It’s weird and sounds distant.
Thoughts?

Thanks. The vent is clear. The sounds is stopped for now, but will likely return later today, probably as I’m writing this. The sound is a low deep gurgle. This is the only place I hear it. I guess I’ll check the trap under the sink. I’ll continue to explore. Thanks.

IIRC gurgling is simply air trying to escape. while we usually associate with blocked main drain, it could be a blocked vent or partially blocked smaller drain pipe, but also could be other issues such as a reversed pitched pipe. Which is usually just a belly or dip more often than not outside the house in a vintage drain. As water / waste tries to push everything out the air is trying to go in the opposite direction uphill.. I’m not a plumber but I believe the gurgling frequency is tied to the diameter of the pipe. IOW a big 6” pipe will gurgle at low sub frequencies and a 1” one a higher pitch. Hopefully others can chime in.
