Guardianship Properties

Does anyone have any experience on what these homes are and if it’s easy to purchase them ?

You should really just get a good attorney who is familiar with Brooklyn Real Estate and these types of cases which can come up through a myriad of ways. Older homeowners, fighting relatives, legal problems. Find someone who will work in your best interests and not anyone who will tell you the wrong thing. You can also go down to the Buildings Dept. and ask what this means they may be able to help you with some very basic understandings. Be mindful but be prepared for this to take time, patience and tons of energy.

Hi – there was a property that came onto the market on a really great block that was priced especially low. My husband and I figured it was “too good to be true”. When we asked about it the realtor told us it was a guardianship property. I’m not sure what that means or what it entails

Is there a reason you are choosing that path to ownership? It can be a legal quagmire. Expensive and any family member can pop up and challenge your purchase. Unless your pockets are deep I would talk to your attorney about all the pitfalls and length of time to purchase. Good luck.

Sorry I should have been more clear….Im trying to purchase a home that is a guardianship property. There is already a caretaker in it, does that process complicate things?
I’ve never heard of this before so I’m not sure how it works

Being a caretaker. It’s not a path to purchase
