Green Energy :: Solar/ Wind :: Recommendations :: HVAC stystem

We upgraded our house to an HVAC system away from Gas use and I was told this is very economical. But reality is, that we have a bill when cheap around $400 in Summer and in Winter around $700 (it’s for a 2 Family House) . I would love to change ConED to Green Energy. Does anyone have recommendations ? Anyone experience with pricing for a 2 family house & HVAC system. Thanks a lot

Thanks a lot. we have 2 condensers.. i will check if we get charged the “demand charges”. I don’t think that’s the case but still yes we are paying at least 400 a month and in winter the double..in any event it will be better to go green (which will probably not lower the bill but at least hopefully making a small impact)…

You can go with Greenmountain, but it’s not going to be much cheaper. Why? Because that concerns only the ‘supply’ part of your bill and Coned will still charge for delivery.
It is important to understand your energy bill. If you (like myself) have a single hvac condenser on the roof that will peak at 11 kw in defrost mode, then coned will charge you a ‘demand charges’ which are a flat fee for reserving this much energy potentially. This is not great because this fee (up to $400 per month) can’t be offset by solar net metering.

It’s been my experience that heating with electricity in NYC is much more expensive. It’s not necessarily more green, but that depends on how the electricity is generated. Possibly one way to bring down your electrical costs is by installing solar panels on your roof. Apart from saying beware of letting the solar installers put your electric box smack in the middle of your front facade, I’ll let others who have installed solar chime in on costs.
