GEICO insurance

Anyone have GEICO for their home? I just got a quote from them for my 4-story house for just under 2000 which is 1/3 ! of my current State Farm policy. This sounds way too good to be true. Is it? I know they dont’t actually insure themselves, but farm it out to other companies. So is that the issue?

Standard coverage, except their replacement cost is 650k which seems low to me.

I refer Will Smoltino and Theo Garatziotis at Narrows Insurance to all my clients. They are amazing to work with and are based in Brooklyn. They cover hundreds of townhouses and can get the proper coverage at a good price. Their office number is 718-745-1500

Brownstone Agency is not a “small user-unfriendly compan(y)” they are actually part of a huge company and most of their new customers come from Independent Brokers.
They do not have a sales staff.
Eventually any company that gives you a quick quote over the phone will want that same “weird form” filled out and the quote will change, or they do not cover “your age of house” thus completely wasting your time after initially making you feel good. That is what sales people from large companies do… sales.

I dealt with Mercedes Vega at Brownstone on a renewal 2 years ago. She was very responsive, especially for emails. (mvega@brownstoneagency.com). My experience with Brownstone overall has been patchy. I had a substantial flood claim 15 years ago and it took literally a year to get paid and only after all sorts of letters to the Insurance Commissioner, City, etc. But I did get the money.

Is Brownstone for real? They responded once to my inquiry with some weird form to fill out, and have ignored my last 2 emails. No wonder people choose not to deal with small user-unfriendly companies; Geico took all info in 5 minutes & sent me a quote.

However, Brownstone Agency policies are slightly less expensive than the GEICO policy mentioned by the OP and ARE tailored for historic houses. FWIW I’ve used them for >40 years. OTOH I’ve had only one small claim, so I can’t address the problems with BA others have mentioned in this forum.

If you have a historic (older than 25 years old) house, you really need to speak to an independent insurance Broker with experience of selling policies for historic houses.
Otherwise you will end up with a cheap policy that does not cover anything.

I have Geico and that’s better than what I’m paying, but maybe I have some different details. I have never had a claim, so I can’t speak to the service.
