garbage can sheds

I’ve seen some nice sheds/bins for garbage cans in my walks around the neighborhood. The most common brand I saw is citibin and when I checked out their website, I was absolutely shocked at the price. Has anyone investigated other manufacturers that are more reasonable in price? Thanks

So the bezene comment. I said that for reaction. For those who like history and the history of things in and around houses and workshops, my grandfather used to have benzene in his garage and i first heard the word in the very late 1960s. He used it as a cleaner or something around the garage. A few months back asked bob marvin about benzene on here and he could not comment, so i called my uncle and he told me that yes, my grandfather used benzene but most people had a can in the garage in the mid 20th century for cleaning puposes, around machinery.. it is now considered a carcinogen and only available through scientific suppliers.

People on LI routinely put gasoline in the trash cans to keep the raccoons and dogs away. But cate is correct, it is dangerous. Our cans are in a private alley but i suppose on a street, someone could light a match and toss it in a can and….

The rats have been a disaster for everyone. Put trash in cans with lids. If you don’t have lids, pour benzene or gasoline into the cans. When gas hit $4 a gallon, i replaced my missing lids. The issue is that no matter how diligent you are, the rats will still attack the bagged trash. We have tenants on our street and the rats hang around because they bag the trash.

Put in a garden and don’t bother with the hassle of the bins 🙂 Seriously, is it not hard to get the cans out of those on trash day? Do leaves and rodents accumulate?

We used their parcel bin enclosre to store our garbage cans. They were less than half the cost when they went on a flash sale. Essentially the same thing without the lift up lid (i.e. i open the door to put bags of trash in)

I love the CitiBin aesthetic but my wife actually questioned my sanity and threatened divorce if I spent that much on a garbage can enclosure. There are no good alternatives if it’s the CitiBin look you’re after.

This is a solution in search of a problem. I also looked at Citibins pricing and spit out my coffee. Good business for them. I have had my plastic heavy duty “cans” in my front stoop area for almost 30 years and see no need to enclose them and provide a lovely haven for rats. I can move the cans and clean the area and move them back. If you are at all handy, you can build one, or if you have a contractor doing work, add to the scope.
