so selecting plates will not work without knowing what kind of lock body you have inside (the make: russwin, baldwin, marks, norwalk) as the holes for the mortise cylinder and knobs will not line up. and for the older ones, (baldwin and marks are the only newer ones i encounter though there are others) it may be very hard to find the plates. buying this stuff used on line is like throwing dice. in so far as Baldwin and Marks: the Baldwin can be ordered from Cape Cod Brass (i have some used or leftover product in stock for customers but not enough to warrant a trip) or from Simons Hardware in the city. in so far as Marks – there are two hardware firms that make and sell plates that fit their product and these plates are available at many good hardware stores and locksmiths throughout Brooklyn. again, i probably have all of the marks product in stock but it is not worth a trip.

knobs depend on the spindle size and if they are threaded or not. so if you are dealing with marks or baldwin, the spindle is smaller than the old stuff and modern knobs will fit. But, be aware that marks uses threaded knobs while baldwin uses unthreaded knobs so you may have to swap the spindles. the threaded marks variety of knobs are available at the local locksmiths and there are cheaper and better versions.

if you need more specifics, post back and i will see if i can respond.

Can you provide a bit more detail; old or new hardware, the style you are looking for?
