free 5 gallons of water based bona gym floor finish
i have a five gallon can of high gloss bona gym floor finish, water based. it is unopened but about 10 years old. a floor guy told me bits of it might have congealed and i am not sure if it can be run through cheesecloth. (had this happen with some old ben moore water based poly and was able to use it though i would not risk it on a floor).
free to someone willing to pick up in middle village.
first to email will get first refusal and so on. contractors welcome.
if no one takes this, it will be donated to habitat for humanity in woodside.
please email me using one of the addresses on www.thetinkerswagon.com

and let me add to that above, the only reason i am not keeping it around here to use as a seal coat is i am not doing enough interior water base work.

Greenthinker: the true environmentalists and finishing people and paint/vanish manufacturers among us will understand this approach as opposed to the dated one you suggest. unless a finish has spoiled, there is nothing wrong with it. latex paint will get micro organisms in it and it will smell and have to be tossed but will otherwise last ten years or more. varnishes and oil paints last forever but will thicken (though varnishes will also harden in the can and must be disposed of and their are ways to prevent that). and yes altering them with thinner to make them usable again will alter their sheen. too much thinner in marine varnish will make the finish hard and undesirable for a top coat. all clear work requires a seal coat. with oil varnish we mix it 50/50 with thinner anyway. water base goes on straight and all of these products, including paint, get sanded out between coats and sanding removes all sorts of things from the finish including dust and other particles in the finish and “globules” that i sometimes found in minwax products and might be in this product. oil paints? a little green left from the last job but the next job is black? use it as an underlay; it will get sanded out anyway. (do you have any idea how much product in a small business becomes between coat sanding dust?)
.
this thing of dating things and tossing them in the trash is modern trend. my guess is it propagated by the government (food and drug safety) and corporations. the only reason the corporations support this is, they sell more product. where my family comes from – and they did all this work – they did not throw anything out. it all got used. they were true green thinkers ahead of their time.
this is why i said i would not put it on a floor. but on a table top as a seal coat? sanding later? not an issue.

Mix it up with some sand and throw it out. No one should risk all their labor and time to use 10 year old product.
