Floor access cover

Does anyone have a recommendation for a floor access cover to use in the basement to cover a u-trap? Thanks.

bought the house and it had a piece of plywood. Replaced it with steel plate with recessed handles, from an iron worker who built a backyard railing for me. Cost about $300 or so.

ok, for the marine ply. marine ply is marine ply because the glue is waterproof. years ago i used to think the glue was resourcinol. but marine ply(or any wood) is really only good in salt water because the organisms that eat wood and lead rot do not like salt water. i am sure the poly helps but with fresh water condensation, i would be afraid that bacteria would eat the wood, leading to rot (even if it is marine ply). i did not say it above because it is now illegal, but i used cca on the wood (and my guess is cca killed the bacteria). today we can treat it with boron and it will prevent rot not because the wood stays dry but the boron or boric acid kills the bacteria that eat the fibers (moisture does not cause rot; bacteria does).

the old cover that had been where the one was that i mention making a replacement for above, that had rotted and there was a lot of condensation in that box.

We have the large pit framed with a covering made of 3/4 marine ply and 5/8 cork, a sump access made the same way, 3 smaller check valve lids, the same way. In the laundry room, we have another sump pump access panel and one smaller check valve lid, both 3/4 marine ply with ceramic tile on top. Lots of poly inside and occasional shake of bonami.

I made one years ago out of marine ply. It was smack in the middle of a finished basement floor and someone could have gone through half in ply. i went with 3/4″ and framed it underneath so it would not move out of the masonry box it was covering and treated it with wood preservative because there was a lot of condensation. Finished it with matching floor tile on top.

We have a finished floating cork floor. The hatch over the trap is simply a cutout that we pull up with a huge suction cup handle that one can buy for bathrooms.

thanks. We did find a local steel shop to make them, much cheaper than ordering online. And one of the young men in the shop turned out to be the grandson of someone I worked with in Ithaca years ago.
