Fire Rated Exterior Entrance Doors

I Have a two legal family home and am replacing the exterior entrance door from the street that opens into the house’s common hallway. My question is if a convert the home into a legal three family home (Multiple Dwelling) in the future, would code require a Fire Rated Entrance Door from the street into the house’s common hallway. If so I would replace it with that type of door now. I know the doors into each of the apartments would be required to be fire rated self closing, but want to know if the exterior door would also be required? Thanks

Generally the exterior doors are not required to be fire rated. The fire rating is required between different dwelling units (apartments) or between a dwelling unit and the exit enclosure (public corridor/stair).
