Fios setup in new rental

Hello,

New landlord here with a rental unit in our house. How is the Fios setup handled via-vis the tenants? There is fiber to the wall but no ONT install- is it customary for the landlord to get the ONT installed and just have the tenant pay for the service or have the tenant deal with the ONT install to get the service? When I called Verizon they wouldn’t do it for a new account unless I already had the tenants name and SS#. What is customary? Thanks!

Pretty sure the tenant just signs up for new service and Verizon will come install the ONT — especially if you have an existing FiOS terminal on the property. Though I find it suspect you would have a Fios line in the wall (I assume its in the unit) and no ONT, unless it was previously removed. I would more concerned / involved if it was a first time Fios install in the unit, in which case I would coordinate with the tenant / Verizon tech when they arrive to make sure they route the FiOS line to where I want it. Otherwise they just drill holes wherever it suits them. Usually the landlord is required to be involved in larger buildings when it isn’t already pre-wired for Fios and Verizon needs permission to wire the building for FiOS.

i am not sure how fios works and i am not sure how cable works in say a 4 or six family. in the early 2000’s i brought cable into my apt in a two family in sunnyside. i am not sure what kind of service my downstairs landlord had if any (might have had TV). i dealt with the cable people, they ran the line, i paid for everything and i paid the bill. i did not ask nor expect my 80 year old landlord to do anything. (and in turn she was VERY good to us).
