Finishing Specialist Recommendations?

Hi, the contractor for our near-gut brownstone renovation has botched a number of finish details and is unwilling to fix them: wall-mount toilets that are 3-3.5″ too high (my wife’s feet don’t touch the floor), poor tile work (visibly uneven surfaces, sloppy grouting,numerous chips, gouges, and scratches), and others. There are other serious problems that he may or may not be willing (or able) to fix: leaking bathroom tile seams, a failed drainage system set up in the backyard, leaking cement work in the cellar, poorly crafted sliding doors, the list goes on. So we desperately need recommendations on quality finish specialists for woodwork and tile and probably a plumber and electrician too. I’m looking for recommendations only — please, don’t write in to offer your own services. This isn’t a super high end renovation, but between the architect, contractor, and building materials we’ve spent well over $200 psf. The job is already 4 months behind and we really want our lives back, so please help!

My contractor that did my bathroom also did excellent work. I understand that they also do general renovations (besides bathroom). You can Yelp for AIS repairs and renovations. I am happy with my contractor, Edmund Topacio of Topaz Remodelers. He does good quality work and his prices are reasonable though he is certainly not the cheapest bid you will receive. I feel the quality is worth it. In particular his service and responsiveness is excellent. Thanks for your reply. We’ll need to have certain jobs simply redone, not cleaned up or corrected, and as you say, it will take multiple people. But we will be very thankful indeed for the work. I also don’t see how it would be futile to rip out bad work and replace it with good work — quite the contrary. Our contractor has already refused to do certain jobs — the guy won’t even admit to having made mistakes — and is probably unable and/or unwilling to do others, so we don’t have a choice but to look elsewhere. So, miracle workers or not, I’d appreciate any leads.

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news; but such a miracle worker at a reasonable price does not exist; you are asking for too many skill sets and no one wants to clean up shoddy work, it becomes a thank less task.
Work with the current contractor to fix as much as possible and consider completely re-doing things that really bother you, that your current contractor cannot fix to your satisfaction. Yes, paying to have things re-done is expensive, but as I said trying to correct another workers bad job just becomes an exercise in futility.
