Finishing basement

I’m looking to finish my basement in a brownstone and am not sure whether I need a general contractor, architect, design-build, etc. The basement is already partially finished. I’m looking to replace the staircase, put in a polished concrete floor, and do some other finishing work like repaint, seal some exposed brick. It doesn’t seem like a huge job to me, but I just got a quote from a design-build firm that seems extremely high. Suggestions?

As it appears that you know what you want, just work with a contractor directly.
Ask neighbors who is good in your area, pay attention to work being done in the area and stop and ask etc.
