I have only used the Ben Moore Ultra Spec Masonry (Elastomeric). It lets moisture out so you don’t have to worry about what Steve mentioned.

It depends on if water gets in. Many brick walls have weep holes to allow water to escape. I suppose in a wall that has tight joints all around and on the roof, there will be no issues.
In 1980 a man was telling me why it had been wrong for someone to paint the brick on his 1880s house. He wanted to sand blast it off (something in itself which is destructive to brick) . He never did and two years ago i got to see the house again and all looked fine. The paint is still there as well, must be a lot of lead.

FWIW the rear wall of my house was already painted when I bought it and I’ve had it repainted a few times over the years. I haven’t seen any spalling or deterioration of the brick. My next door neighbors had the rear of their house stripped several years ago. It looks nice but was an awful mess.

Rule no 1 of brick home ownership: do not paint brick. It traps mousture and mousture or water expands by 9% as it freezes and guess what happens to your brick? Ever watch a beer can freeze on a cold night? Or forget a bottle of it in the freezer?
