Exterior Door Casing/Trim
Hey I noticed that my brownstone exterior door (parlor) is missing the decorative spindle like casing. My contractor isn’t able to find anyone and was wondering if there was a way to get these replaced in an economical way.=?

Advanced: i took a look at the recommendation you posted above and appreciate that you posted that. we sometimes have to find unique trim and it can be problematic in that a lot of stuff is poplar which cannot be used outside or overly pricey. this was reasonable and had a variety of woods. thank you for that-

It is possible you are looking for what is called Rope Molding. It comes in 1/2 round and quarter round profiles. If you are wrapping a door frame you will need left hand and right hand turned moldings which meet in the center at the top header as a bow.

on another thought, try vaughan at heights woodworking on the off 9th st by the gowanus canal. they have a full shop there but i am not sure if i saw a lathe. i do not know how to make something like this without a lathe and not everyone has one.

some of these are not actually round so they cannot simply be turned on a lathe and they are also too long for most lathes that we have in the city (my lathe is 48″ but with allowance for the chucks, working capacity is less). you can try adriatic wood products or if your wood will be painted see if one of the flex molding manufacturers has such a beast in their catalogs. there is a flex molding company in newark and another in fletcher, north carolina.
