Extension...leak...mold... Where to begin?

Like many of you, during the big rains we discovered holes we didn’t know we had. Very old one-story extension that houses the washer and dryer had water come in, or rather stuff in the room was wet afterwards, but I didn’t think hard enough about where that water came from. Went to change the lightbulb in the ceiling fixture over the weekend, and Surprise! The fixture cover was full of water, and so was the lightbulb! Who knew? And to add to the fun, great big, horror movie-type patches of black mold have sprouted on the ceiling.

SO. I need a mold remediation person (got a name from another thread), an electrician (have a great one) a roofer maybe to figure out where the water got in? (And someone to talk me into throwing out the moldy laundry and someone else to pour me a drink.)

Is there an aspect of this I’m not thinking of? And which one of these is the first step?

Dealing with the same thing – only it’s my parlor floor apt & the bay window roof and back wall pointing failed… The mold remediation people will want to measure the moisture in the walls and floors and cut out everything that’s wet. If there’s more than 10 square feet of mold then that becomes more complicated — so a little more involved. Before they do the proper dry out though (unless you want to do it twice) you’ll want to make sure all the ways the water was coming in are fixed — and then it’s the rebuild.
