Emergency plumbing

Anyone have any solid recommendations for plumbing? Serious “leak” in our boiler (which I think was caused by a Home Serve technician but that’s a whole other post!) that required turning it off or risking flooding. So far everyone’s next availability isn’t until tomorrow and we’re worried about pipes freezing/bursting. Need someone to address this ASAP. Appreciate any leads.

Also if you open one faucet on each floor very slightly, it will prevent your pipes from freezing. It takes a lot of cold to get (even slightly) flowing water to freeze.

I can tell you something else. I have not yet drained and isolated my outdoor faucet. It is on a common copper tube protruding about 4″ from the house. It hit 29 last night and will hit 31 tonight and just to put your mind at ease I am not going to isolate or drain it tonight either. All will be well in the morning.

I cannot help you get a plumber any faster than you can. But I can put your mind at ease. In my brick queens house it would take 3 or 4 days of 20 degree weather with no heat before internal pipes begin freezing. Cloudy days may speed that a little as the houses will not warm from the sun. Today it looks like we hit 29 degrees in the early morning and a quick glance at the weather has me thinking we will not see that again the rest of the week.

Something else, I once took care of a property on coastal nc and they had exposed riser pipes under elevated beachfront buildings. There was a common piece of insulation around these pipes and we frequently hit 28 or 30 degrees during overnights and the pipes never broke. That was sort of risky though.

You should be fine until help arrives.
