Electric Dryer Venting

We failed the gas inspection and have to redo a ton of gas pipes in the house (another thread for another time but it was $$$ to bring our newish pipes into compliance). Building is a brownstone and current gas dryer has a vent that is too long and won’t pass inspection. I just bought an electric dryer and am reluctant to put it on the back wall closer to the vent because we sometimes get water in the basement through that wall when it pours outside. So one option is to keep the freshly vacuumed vent that was there for the gas dryer but is very long and has a few elbows where we may need a booster on the vent or get someone to cut a new vent out in the front of the house, cut through pavers in the front yard to vent and have a vent near our garbage cans out front. Brownstone has a full cellar. I am scratching my head trying to figure out a good solution here but can’t really find one. Electrician still has to come to put in a new line.
Suggestions?

There are ways to keep the gas dryer, especially if you are already redoing the gas lines completely.

A popular place for a washer/dryer (vented or unvented) is the mudroom/shed/extension on the ground floor — if it is airtight and heated. An unvented washer/dryer could go anywhere (with the right hookup) — you don’t need a vent. If there’s a pantry near a kitchen or closet near a bedroom, that’s often a good choice. Or you can create a covered closet/pantry in a kitchen and put one inside.

25 feet with some elbow turns. I think it just works better if you have a booster on a long line. I am not an expert at all so that is why I am posting…just what I have learned the past few days. If you have not had your vent vacuumed in more than a year, I recommend get that done to help prevent fires.

Let me ask it a different way. How long is the gas vent you are no longer using? I have a long vent for a gas dryer and am curious if I have a potential problem.

Dunno, that is part of my question. Dryer vents for gas dryers cannot be more than a certain amount of feet to pass inspection and ours exceeded that. With the National Gird debacle in my basement we had to have repairs and an inspection from DOB when it is fixed, so if I allow them in my gas dryer would not pass. So I bought an electric one which they supposedly don’t have jurisdiction over. My current gas dryer was vented out the back yard but the ductwork in the basement is too long because they dryer is located in the center of the basement. This was the setup before I bought the home. For electric dryers I hear that they work better with a reasonable length vent, I am thinking/hearing 10 feet. Since my duct vent work is long, a booster was suggested. Electrician thinks that is a fire hazard.
