Dying lawn
About two years ago, I placed sod in our backyard. It did very well until about three or four week ago. Now it seems to be dying. I suspect a fungus, perhaps triggered by heavy rains and humidity. I am not sure of what to do: Possibly save it, redo it, clean it and plant seeds on topsoil? Any advice would helps. I attach two images, one taken three weeks ago, the other one today. I ordered these over 2 years:
PT 770 Water Less Eco-Lawn Mix and
PT 755 Fleur de Lawn
The smallest size (2 lb) is enough for your 400 sqf. You can seed one time in fall and a bit more in spring. Remember that the grass mix sprouts a bit slower than the ‘instant gratification’ mixes from Home Depot.

@Augustiner, do you remember which mix you ordered? I’m thinking about doing the same thing, and would love to plant this in the fall. Also, about how much seed do you need to order per square foot of lawn? Or, put another way, how much do you think I would need for a 20×20 plot of grass? Thanks!

I found that using seed (Kentucky Bluegrass) worked a lot better than sod worked better in our backyard. It just takes more time to look covered but the grass survived better than we laid sod last year.

With the humidity we’ve had this summer along w/ less than usual sun, you may have moss which you can treat w/ lime. You could also try aerating it.

Sod is very high maintenance. After a failing sod and some Home Depot See mix attempts I ordered a more natural ‘low maintenance’ mix. My grass is now mixed with clovers and other more deep rooting varieties. No more fertilizer and I didn’t have to water it once this year.

Could be grubs. You can try pull up the grass in the yellow areas and if you see C-shaped white bugs, you’ve got them. They eat the roots of the grass. You can go to a hardware store and get an insecticide.

No, we don’t have a dog. We don’t have an ant infestation either. Could it be a fungus?

Do you have a dog? Too much concentration of dog pee will do this. Also an infestation of ants. The first thing is to find out what is causing it, throwing more seed on or redoing it with the same conditions, it will just happen again.
