Ductless air conditioning

Hello, has anyone put this system into their brownstone? Our house is 17×60 and the bid is $130K, which seems excessive. Can anyone offer a reality check? Thank you.

we installed mini splits on the top 2 floors of our brownstone (4 rooms wtih 3 of the units being concealed). It cost about $20k, plus the cost of the handyman to install the drywall and paint. We have 2 compressors on the roof. We used Mastersmind (owner is Chris Cosentino) and have been happy thus far. It’s been 2 years and though there have been minor blips, he’s been great at coming to service the units and make sure everything’s working right. $130k is crazy expensive.

Hi there- For a two family 20 x 60 (one floor 3 bedrooms, other floor more open), 2 outside units and about 6 indoor units, Mitsubishi, we just got a quote of $21K from Richair, based in Maspeth (800-590-1557). Hasn’t been installed yet, but they seem to have great ratings.

Sam’s email is sc@homeairinc.com – I don’t think he has a site – he’s independent, but knows his stuff, is responsive, and his prices seem really good (this is the second job he’s done for me)

Yes, that’s way high. We paid around $45K for a full Mitsubishi ducted mini split system (I recommend this over the ductless) with 2 compressors on roof for 3200 sq ft. Ping me if you need installer’s info. (don’t have it handy at the moment).

Sounds ridiculous to me. We have 4 floors, 17×50, including compressor on roof, 2nd compressor in backyard, and 8 air handlers totaling 84K BTU (this is Mitsubishi Mr Slim). With electric, drip lines going through walls and floors into cellar, etc etc, it was about $35K.

I’m doing two floors of a 17×45′ row house currently; one with two wall mounted air handlers (open plan living/dining/kitchen area, no walls) and one with a concealed unit in the ceiling ducted to three bedrooms, with two condenser units outside on ground level, and it’s totaling about $14k. Your project is probably much bigger, but I agree that sounds pretty high. I love my HVAC guy and would recommend him for at least a quote – his name is Sam Chiu, Home Air, (347) 880-4256

Even with a crane to lift units to the roof this sounds extremely excessive. What system are they proposing? How many floors? Scaffolding required? Electric? Drains? Permits and filings? How many units?
