Drafting Drawing for LPC for Replacing Window
Does anyone have a recommendation for someone that could do drawings for LPC for replacing (non original) windows in a Landmarked district? I’ve already begun the application process but just need the drawings. I am not currently working with an architect and am hoping to get this done in the most cost effective manner.

OP, you can call landmarks and speak to them and they will tell you what they will accept. that agency is wholly unlike other city agencies in that they are set up to help people (not hinder them with an obstructionist disposition or common stupidity like the DOB). Every time i have filed something i have made at least two calls to them to clarify things – and i specifically have asked them about drawings. Every time i have asked they have taken the time to help me.
in so far as a drafting program. i have auto cad training and own an older version of cad – twenty years ago when we needed to do something like this in buildings, i never used the cad. We got some cheap program for homeowners. it was easy and cheap twenty years ago and i can only imagine is has gotten easier and cheaper today. i just googled “drafting programs for homeowners” and there is a lot out there. you don’t need something pricey for this and as i said, you can do this on graph paper.
this is what i would do: after calling landmarks and having a conversation with them about what they will accept, i would make a drawing of the front of your house on graph paper. this is a simple line drawing (it is called an elevation). put boxes to scale where the windows are. i would then get pictures of the windows you want to use off the internet (and keep in mind, these manufacturers ALL have shop drawings of their products on line) and using one of the photo editing or acrobat or something programs i would take the photos or shop drawings and scale them to the size of your drawing and print them off and cut and paste them onto the graph paper (or insert them if you get a drafting program). if you cut and paste, run the mock up through a copier to put it all on one piece of paper. If you do this, specify the color the windows will be on the sheet (specify that color using a paint manufacturer’s color number and name; color is very important to lpc). Also include a shop drawing of the window from the manufacturer and a color photo of it from them as well.
LPC has never sent anything back to me because of my crappy hand drawn drawings. i have been refused only because customers were asking for things we were told we would not get anyway and we eventually worked around those.
of course, you will want to be working with a window manufacturer whose product is already being used by lpc. i imagine all this can be done with another manufacturer but that will put the project under greater scrutiny.
Some day, i might begin preparing lpc filings for people.

you can do this yourself with a drafting program made for non architects. or use graph paper. i use graph paper and photographs when i have to deal with LPC and have no issues. if you passed first grade finger painting you can do this-
