Dog pee smell on sidewalk
There are a lot of dogs in my neighborhood. As the weather warms up, the dog pee smell lingers.
Any recommended products or tips to clean and deodorize the sidewalk in front of my house (at least)?

I use Lysol spray on the sidewalk near our tree pit. I leave it overnight, then scrub with a broom and rinse with the hose. It seems to dissuade dogs from peeing there. Partly because they hate chemical and/or citrus smells; partly because it dilutes or eradicates the dog pee smell from the last culprit that attracts them in the first place. I take care not to spray the plants!

There are all sorts of products at a pet store for removing pet urine smells, most notably “natures miracle,” which is not that miraculous. But you are definitely over-thinking this. A hose alone, or spread some oxi-clean and then hose.

we used something by Neutron industries years ago and i recall having to wet it. it was not quick and simple.
bob, we are capitalists. we have to complicate things and sell specialized product to move our economy along and justify everything we do.

I’ve found it adequate to simply hose the sidewalk down

Not sure which one you used, but SCOE 10X is easy — you follow instructions for diluting it, let it sit for 20 minutes, soak the area with the odor & when it dries the odor is gone. If you’ve used another cleaning solution you might have to apply a couple times – but if you use it first it’s usually one and done.

So i am not sure about the one anne is referring to but we had enzymes that we put in sewage ejector tanks in big buildings. The worked over time eating with one biological agent eating the other. When we bought this house, it had been lived in by a very elderly couple one of them had bad aim. The place stank and cleaning would not do it because it was down in the grout. I ordered an enzyme used for pet odors.
This would be my concern with enzymes: i THINK they are made to work over time. And i THINK they have to remain damp to work. I think that as living organisms, the enzymes will cease to work if they dry up. I am sure the real answer can be found on the net.

You need a good enzyme cleaner to neutralize the smell and not just add perfume to it. SCOE 10X is the one I swear by – it’s not cheap, but it does the trick.

I have not looked to see if it is written about on line but charlseton south carolina has all those carriage horses. The residents find the odors left by their urine, which dries, offensive. So when a horse does no 1 in the road, the carriage operator gets out and puts a little flag on the spot. That way if it dries, the clean up crew can find it. They treat it with something, i am not sure what. Urine is acid, so maybe they hit it with some sort of alkaline.
They used to sell the little flags in the tourist shops. Maybe you can get some and give them out to the dog owners and they can put them where the dogs pee and you can go around and spray the spots.?
