Does deregistering from HPD clear old violations?
Pretty much the title. We own a two-family and are occupying one of the units, so afaik we are considered a “private dwelling” and do not need to register with the HPD. However, the property has an open HPD violation (window guards) from before we bought it (outside of the self-certification window). The violation is no longer applicable. While I could go through the process of requesting a dismissal inspection or a reissuance, I was wondering if deregistering (which I’m considering anyway) would also clear or nullify the open violation. Does anyone know?
And are there other downsides to deregistering that I should be aware of? We will be renting the garden level unit. Thanks!

I hight doubt removing from registration would erase violations as they’re tied to the property not the registration.
They only way I’ve had violations removed was by certifying fix.

I have not needed to do this in quite a few years.
The last time I needed too, I got a certified copy of the new Certificate of occupancy, a copy of the said violation & went out to the office on Euclid Ave in East NY. Waite in line to see a man who would listen to my needs, take the papers & within a few days it would be cleared off the records & HPD records would show it as a 2 family….
I am not sure if the walk in office is still an option on Euclid Ave or if they have humans even available…. Not really a big deal though, any title company that are familiar with Brooklyn, would not make anything of a historic “violation” from before the new C of O.
