DOB Inspections - how long?
We have an offer on a townhouse that recently went through a gut reno. I consider myself pretty tech savvy but the DOB website as well as DOB Now are not very user friendly. I know there are permits open, but how can I be sure they’ve been closed — what language should I be looking for??
Also how long does it normally take for a DOB inspector to come and inspect the property? Asking how long these things take before we can close.

on the BIS system you’re looking for “X SIGNED OFF” to indicate a project has been closed. click on “jobs/filings” at the bottom of the property’s main page and then you’ll see all the “job status” indicators for each permit that’s been pulled. another link on the property’s main page “open plumbing jobs/work types” will take you to a different set of jobs that i believe are all, by nature of the query, open, so if anything comes up, it’s open. because of the way DOB is now transitioning from BIS to DOB NOW you may not see all the permits in either of these views. I believe that electrical, elevator, scaffold, and possibly other permits might only appear though DOB NOW at this point while the major Alt-1, Alt-2 etc. will still show on the BIS system. DOB NOW is not working for me this morning so I can’t provide any more specifics, hope this helps.
I will say that due to low staffing levels at DOB, processing all types of filings has slowed down enormously. I don’t know what the current timelines folks are seeing for permit closures are right now.
