Disposing of autumn leaves in the Spring

I wasn’t able to rake and recycle my backyard leaves late last year. Finally I’m catching up. I know I can simply bag the leaves and put them for the Sanitation Dept to pick up but I much rather find a place to compost them. The folks who take them with open arms in autumn don’t seem interested at this time of year. Anyone have any thoughts?

Bob,
Brown bins mean that they pick up compost every recycling day year round, so a paper bag full of leaves will be picked up with the compost. In non brown bin areas, they will just be thrown in with the regular trash.

NeoGrec,

No brown bins yet here in PLG either but, even if we had them they’re really more for food scraps (even though they say yard waste). The brown bins are tiny and wouldn’t hold many leaves.

In the fall, when leaves are picked up by Sanitation for composting, a garbage can marked “Yard Waste Only,” with no bag, is an acceptable container. I use these in the spring also, but does anyone know if they’re officially allowed at that time of year?
