disconnecting gas dryer for repair

Our gas dryer needs to be repaired. The service company came yesterday with the new ordered part, but then stated they could not repair the dryer because their liability does not cover them disconnecting the vent or gas line from the dryer. Really annoyed because they didn’t tell me this beforehand. Is this standard? How have you handled this – do you have to hire a plumber to disconnect, then have the service person repair the machine, then hire the plumber again afterwards to reconnect it? I do not feel comfortable doing this myself. To make things more com
plicated, the service person recommended we switch to a flexible vent even though he acknowledged our rigid vent is excellent and better quality than any flexible one. He also said the gas line is too short. Does anyone have an opinion on this? TIA.

Master Plumber needs to come on here. he is sort of like a cop, never around when you need one.

i have now heard that a licensed plumber is needed just to remove the flexible gas line from AFTER the gas valve (the valve at the end of the run by the appliance). years ago we were always told we can touch that flex line and move it ourselves.

a couple years back my neighbor was faced with the same issue and the people delivering the stove would not touch the connection. something has changed and i do not think it is their insurance, i think it is the code.

Someone else on here should know the answer. also we can google it as if this law changed within in the past few years, it will be all over the ‘net. the city has been big on publishing things that have to do with gas work since that building blew up on second ave some years back.

to answer your question, if that code has changed, then yes, a plumber is needed at both ends of the jobs.
