Deck tiles

Can anyone who has recently built a deck point me in the direction of nice looking deck tiles? our deck will be built on top of an extension. We were thinking about wood, maybe IPE, but i know it’s expensive and maybe more work to maintain? Are there tile alternatives that look nice and are durable and easy to maintain?

Stone and concrete aren’t slippery and come in many sizes and colors. Ceramic can be honed or textured so it’s not slippery.

Also note that the 20% is applied to the roof area at that level, so you can’t use the main roof as part of the area.

Decks on any roofs are best when resting on top of steel beams. There is plenty of crawl space under the beams for a roofer. The weight load is of no concern. After the 20% wood allowance is calculated, the remaining incombustible square footage can easily be made of steel gratings or concrete pavers. What are the other non combustible materials that are used and look nice as an alternative to wood. Stone and ceramic both seem to be hard and possibly slippery

Keep in mind that building a deck on top of an extension is most likely considered a terrace. As such, it is subject to roof requirements, one of which is that you can only cover 20% of the roof in combustible material. Timbertech, Trex, Ipe, etc. are all combustible. So if you’re going to file this, the tiles need to be stone, ceramic, or other non-combustible material.

We used Timbertech instead of wood. Softer on the feet, easier to maintain.
