Damp earth coming through back wall
Images attached. Our back wall had a dripping tap on the exterior that we just noticed, and I just discovered the interior wall looks like the attached. The dirt is damp and I’m not sure where it’s coming from. Any ideas on how to seal this up? use mortar based products to seal outside and know that there are water proofing products for mortar but also be aware that you should not caulk mortar or use plastic based water proofing products on mortar. if you seek advice on this, do not talk to people at home depot. talk to people at mason’s supply houses (glenwood supply or extech).
using the wrong products will trap water inside the mortar and cause problems.

That spot is more likely the combination of the dripping faucet and the rain we have had. Do not caulk that space inside that wall. If that water continues to come in or comes in with future storms, it will become trapped and cause all sorts of problems. Things have to breath.
Instead of caulk, you can put shoe molding there to hold some of the mortar back. Don’t force the shoe molding tight to the floor. If you have another water situation, you want to see it coming in.

Hopefully this is a one-time only event caused by the dripping tap. Check outside and in the cellar to be sure the foundation and the house appear to be attached in the usual way. Once cleaned up and tap is no longer dripping, consider sealing the gap between the wall and floor on the inside with caulk. We’ve had our garden level rear brick wall open and there’s some amount of messy rubble, and we have on one or two occasions gotten a trace of it inside. It’s easy to imagine a dripping tap causing soil to erode and wash into the house. Hopefully that’s all it is. If it persists, there may be a more serious issue (such as the foundation and the wall of the house not being constructed properly to keep out water, air, and soil). You might consult with an engineer or mason. Good luck.
