Creating a driveway (i.e., curb cut process) in Sunset Park

My parents own a house in Sunset Park and want to create a driveway. I was reading about the curb cut process and requirements on the city website and came to the conclusion that it’s probably going to be impossible for the city to approve the request even if they meet the requirements (e.g., clearance from trees, fire hydrants, minimum dimensions, etc.).

Has anyone successfully gotten a curb cut approved? What was the total cost (e.g., architect filing, paving the driveway, etc.). And lastly, does creating a require for a new C of O to be issued? Any tax implications like an alt-1 renovation would trigger? Thanks in advance.

I thought reading here at some point they are now all but impossible for many/most homes that don’t have an original garage or driveway built in–you can’t just concrete over your front yard and call it a driveway. Trees: 7 feet
Hydrants: 7 feet
Light Poles: 7 feet
Street Signs: 7 feet
Utility Poles: 7 feet
Phone Booths: 10 feet
Residential Zone Easements: 5 feet
Adjacent Driveway Edge: Varies with zoning district

Parking Spaces
Minimum Dimensions: 8.5 feet x 18 feet
Location:
Varies with zoning district
Side, front or rear yard
Within your building lines
May not encroach the sidewalk

So if you do the math, you’d need to have a 7 + 8.5 + 7 feet=22.5′ minimum clear space in front of your home and neighbors, and a depth of 18 feet plus the width of the sidewalk in front of that to street. Determining if you meet that criteria is pretty quick way to determine if it’s worth pursuing.

I am not an expert but I would not think you will need a new C of O. You are not changing the use, occupancy or egress of the building.
