Cracks in poured cement basement floor
We moved into a brownstone with a nice smooth poured cement floor. The hatch at the rear of the house, which I’ve recently sealed used to leak and the water runs down just around the drain which is not located at the low point nor in the path of the water. There are old water stains and along the stainss path are cracks making a cross shape. Those cracks are at most an 1/8th of an wide. This rear drain appear collapsed due to cement chunks inside however it drained efficiently with water poured down and I am now running a dehumidifier hose into that drain. So I am wondering…
1. Should I have the rear drain cleared of debris and/or moved to the low point? Or just leave as is since it does drain and I’ve fixed the leak from rear hatch? I really want to keep that dehumidifier running.
2. Are the cracks a major issue? Even without the dehumidifier the basement is pretty dry.
3. Is running the dehumidifier into the drain a bad idea. I dont know if it goes into a pipe or just down under the cement and water goes to the dirt and if the latter could that be an issue if the wa ter pools? It’s not hot down there so it shouldn’t swell and I assume it seeps into the soil below.
FWIW there is a drain located under the front hatch and that has an unobstructed pipe that drains well as water gets in through a whole where the phone lines go and when I hosed out the front courtyard quite alot of water though everything went down the drain without flooding the rest of the basement at all. And there are other cracks that originate at a sharp corner of cement at a hold made for the boiler.
Pics attached.
Thanks in advance.
